Nyinyikay: Yolngu Time - 6 days / 5 nights
Dates: Enquire
Cost: $1800 per person for a group of 4 – 8 people for up to six days plus charters
Yolngu Time is a truly intimate and genuine cultural experience
where Nancy Mutilnga Burarrwanga and her family welcome small groups to
their homeland and share their ancient traditions, stories, language, culture
and daily lives. Nyinyikay
is a stunning and untouched paradise tucked away in a remote corner of North-East
Arnhem Land and far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Visitors to Nyinyikay will live among Yolngu people on their traditional
homeland and become immersed in this ancient culture as it has bound the
Yolngu people to their country for thousands of years. You will have the
rare opportunity to take part in daily activities like digging for wild
yams and turtle eggs, joining the daily hunting expeditions with Nancy’s sons, learning how to make a
yidaki (didgeridoo) or gara (spear) and galpu (spear-thrower) and how to use
them, collecting bush foods and traditional weaving materials, learning to weave
baskets, collecting and using plants for bush medicine, and fishing and hunting
for mud crabs.
You will receive a privileged insight into the ancient knowledge of the
Yolngu, of the land, seasons, rituals and traditions, based on tens of
thousands of years of Aboriginal culture and practice that is passed down
from generation to generation.
This comprehensive cultural program offers non-Aboriginal people a rare
opportunity to experience a taste of Yolngu culture from the inside.
